In Argentina we celebrate Teachers’ Day on September 11, commemorating Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s death. But did you know that this day is celebrated on different dates around the world?
In 1994, UNESCO established WORLD TEACHERS´ DAY on October 5th. Following that initiative, countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Portugal, United Kingdom and Russia celebrate it the same day.
As for the USA, they devote a whole week to teachers, called Teacher Appreciation Week, and within that week (usually in the first full week of May), Tuesday is the chosen day for celebrations.
No matter when we celebrate it, we should all think about them and their footprint in our lives.
HAVE A VERY HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY!!!
